BitHed

...well we thought it would be MUCH better in cardboard with a coat of silver paint...Its a throw-away...use it until it loes its stiffness and then just cut another one out of a cereal box ;) Helps to laminate them with food wrap ;)

FINALLY!!! Aluminum chassis!!! I waited for sooooo loooong!
Bit,
You do know that after several ugly incidents with that breed, PitBulls are castrated in California now. Even the females.
BitHed
11-25-2005, 10:09 PM
...I always thought Californians had no ballls ;) :p And you better be careful because in California this chassis might give you cancer too ;)
...ok Then...In Cali we will call it the PitPuppy...lol...

Pitbulls are banned in Ontario, Canada around March 2005..
Hey HKopium. Sounds like you didn't know that CAW has an milled aluminum chassis available already..
looks sharp..

...Bcuzau; CORRECT...This is the initial chassis that CAW did...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/bithed/CAW/newch-3.jpg
...But it has evolved now into something which might not actually be to everybody's liking...But we saw a need for something like it and went ahead with it...
...this MIGHT be what it looks like now...

This CAW chassis looks pretty sweet.. I'd like to see one purple anodized.. BLING BLING!
I am concerned about weight and durability. Aluminum can bend without you knowing it.. where-as graphite is either perfectly flat or broken.. theres no in between.
I have never bought a CAW product but I have huge respect for them simply because they make there stuff in the U.S. and not china.. and there quality appears to be top notch.
That mill work on that chassis pic made me feel like I was on some sort of bad acid trip. I hope something is done about that prior to production.
As I mentioned before.. I just want the HALF 8 to be the best possible micro ever. I dont care if its an Eclipse chassis or a CAW chassis.. my main concern is improving this car as much as possible for racing and beating every Vendetta ever made!!
Good Luck Guys!!

Has anyone seen any of the Vendettas locally yet? I have read on some of the other forums that Duratrax and Tower are now shipping the cars. Although personally I don't see how the Vendetta can compete against the Mini Inferno. But in a box stock confugration it would be interesting.
And that was one of my biggest disappointments when I first got my H8, the six double AAs battery setup. Of course, the Vendetta and its' 700mah battery is probably not much better.

Why all aluminum???
Sorry knowing its a simple design, could'nt they just make a scale down version of the Inferno Chassis with the plastic side plates but with extra alum space in the rear to hold the battery, just a thought...
No hole under the motor is a good thing....

You can't buy an electric toothbrush in Cali without reading a sticker that says "You might get cancer from this"... Exactly what I like to read right before I put something in my mouth.
That looks fantastic Bithed. I can't wait to see the new pictures!

...Point we went with what we know best and what was proven to work...Right now we dont have the time, materials or knowledge to put something like that together...We HAVE looked at the twin-material chassis, and later on maybe, but right now we went with the Full Metal Jacket...
...We gave the sides a nice subtle lip; both for protection and to enable some more battery mounting options, plus we get the nice added benefit of even LESS flex...
...W have decided to say YES to the front kick-up...We get to keep the better off-road characteristics it provides, plus it is one of the inherent qualities of alloy...Its something that will be a little different to a flat version...
...And YES we also left the chassis whole UNDER the motors...We want the heat to go and the dust and crap to stay out, so basically the WHOLE chassis is just one big heat-sink :D Kinda cool; LITERALLY!!
...In essence the PitBull has been constructed for the coming ST...Big power, big batteries, BIG JUMPS :D It definately aint no Oscar Meier Weenie...It exists for the basher, (or the generally crappy driver; like me) and to stand up to the rigors of the TRUCK version...Which is why we say it may not be everyone's cup of tea...But we wanted one, so we made one...It works, looks good and does its job without comlpaining...Kinda of like a Japanese secretary in knee high stockings ;)

The lip is a good idea, but having that slot at the bend of the lip will not make the chassis more rigid.. Will the final version be slotted as well?
how much kick-up where you guys thinkin' of?

Yah.. no kidding. The thought of Japanesse girls in plaid mini skirts are racing thru my head now.. I think we should all take a "field trip" to Bitheds house!
Anyways... K-Factory makes a sweet chassis for the MBX-5.. check this out..
MBX-5 Chassis (http://www.the-border.nl/product.php?productid=23124&cat=0&page=)
I would love to see something like this for the HALF8. Bithed.. you think you could get me a good price on that MBX-5 chassis's from Panic Toys? I don't need one.. but definetly want one!!
I didn't race tonight because my HALF 8 is still in a million peices (converting it to brushed motor and designing a new chassis for a "brushed only" set-up)... but I did see a lot of Vendettas and Mini LST's. The micro scene is definetly heating up around here! I didn't stick around long enough to see the Vendettas run.. but I'm sure the HALF8's whooped all over them. I'll find out the results tomorrow. The Vendetta had a few good points ie: the diffs.. but it looks like a POS compared to the HALF 8 in my opinion... but lap times tell it all.. so we'll see.
When I was looking at a Mini LST I found another money maker. The bottom of the LST has 3 aluminum chassis plate parts.. making those parts in lite weight carbon fiber would be cool.
Does CAW do any work with carbon fiber?

...From the news: , Texas - A pack of six dogs mauled a 76-year-old woman to death as she worked in her yard, authorities said.
Lillian Loraine Stiles was riding on a lawn mower in her front yard Saturday when she was confronted by the dogs, described as pit bull-rottweiler mixed breeds, said Milam County Sheriff Charlie West.
The dogs were found at the home of Stiles' neighbor, Jose Hernandez..."
...Everyone involved in the production of the PitBull chassis is very concerned with this tragic event...In NO way does ANY member of our team condone or accept this TERRIBLE treatment of these and other animals...Our sincere condolences to the family members of the woman who was attacked...
...On the other side of this we have considered changing the name as it obviously has a 'BAD' image in different places in the world but we also believe that as users we are ALL sensible enough to understand that it is JUST a name...I mean the platform itself IS named the Mini Inferno which you might have a problem with if your little house had burned to the ground...
...PitBull is the name WE will use; but you are quite welcome to call it whatever you like...Thanks for listening...

...Sorry about that long spiel :o
...Pricing has been set for the PitBull...
...For a limited time the chassis EXCLSIVELY for H8.com members will be 55 USD SHIPPED worldwide...Once I have you guys covered the chassis will be available on ebay etc for 'regular' people for 65 USD shipped worldwide...
...And even MORE good news !!! UNITED RC have their PitBull chassis and will spend the next couple of days working on both nimh AND lipo packs to fill up the now 'open' non-motor side!!! URC is putting together all the usual offerings of 6, 7 and 8 cell nimh packs, with a special 10-cell to REALLY make you grin...Obviously you can use all the EXISTING saddle packs if you are using a front-mount chassis...Pics and details some time next week...

Bit, I hope I didn't miss the info if it was already posted, but how thick is the Pitbull? Is it gonna be anodized? .. looking forward to the pics.. :)
Matt.. if I was a hardcore basher I would choose an aluminum chassis simply because worst case the chassis will bend and not break like a carbon fiber and end your fun abruptly.. But you might also race later on which then a lighter chassis will be more better for that set-up.. my .02

BitHed
12-03-2005, 02:43 AM
...Its just to weird to review my own chassis so consider this post as a sales pitch...These tests were undertaken by professionals on closed roads :D Your results may differ...
...It corners on rails, has incredible acceleration DESPITE the extra 30 grams and the suspension is so more responsive...It holds its line like a dog after a rabbit...The diff cases fit BETTER than stock and the slight extra torque you can apply to the mounting screws is just extra pleasing...Almost ZERO chassis roll...
...The battery side is a WHOLE other post :D Mounting can be screws / body posts / velcro or a strip of electrical tape; which is what i used last night...NO movement at all...
...The AON didnt even get warm...lol...the alloy motor mount with the big sideways heatsink and the heat going DIRECTLY into the chassis and dispearsing had MORE effect than i expected...After a FULL URC pack at FULL speed the AON was still cool calm and collected...
...Essentially being 'alloy' in colour in looks good with red, blue OR natural aluminium parts...Coloured PitBulls MAY be available but will have extra cost and a waiting period...The chassis surface is smooth and clean and will accept servo tape / shoe easily...
...I have replaced ALL my diff mounting screws with 3x6 countersunk black steel...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this for the PitBull...Its a different world...If you want your holes at 3mm then I will drill them out, re-countersink them for the bigger heads and supply you with a FULL set of the screws i use; YOKOMO 3x6 Flatheads...58 USD...
...ALL parts fit PERFECTLY, the chassis is shot-peened and then clear-coated...It WILL scratch and the fresh alloy WILL show from underneath...I had an issue with a steering post that rejected its screw in the top and i scratched the chassis getting it off...Big deal...So what...
...Dont believe it when you hear someone calling this chassis JUST a basher...It was designed for HEAVY use but this will be JUST as at home belting the double and clearing the triple...

Poor matts lmao...
Anyways, back to topic... i got a question...
How did you managed to attach the servo to the chassis? Custom made supports?
Edit 1: Another thing is...
Did you use sway bars on the test? I'm asking because of the "Almost ZERO chassis roll" statement... that got me curious...
Ok, i guess that makes 2 questions :D
The chassis looks good Bit, congrats ;)
BitHed
12-03-2005, 03:59 AM
...I didnt use supports at this stage because i wanted to see the liits of servo tape...which works fine...Other options could be the H8 mounts, OR just a regular 1:10 post / mount type of deal, which would involve drilling...Its up to the user really...Posts or a mount would be PERFECT and secure as a rock...Admittedly the tape 'rocks' a little bit, but its not noticeable...I will also be trying the infamous Shoe Goo later on...
...There was no sway bar attached...Right now I am running TAMIYA 300 fronts and 200 rears with red springs and NO spacers...Hope that answers your 'query' :D
...And mail me you weasel and let me know whats happening with 'things' :p

Good LAWD! That thing is sexy!!! It be strokin' til it's smokin' on the track. HAHA. Happy days. I got my new stock chassis in (cracked), and my slippers today (Thanks!), and hopefully I'll time tomorrow to get the buggy running so I can bring it to the track Sunday to show off. Sucks I don't have my replacement Hyperion yet. I forgot to send Troy@B-P-P my broken one.
Back to the (off) topic
Why don't people have faith in good old servo tape? If it can hold the 8AH SLA battery still inside my starter box, it can hold a little servo just fine. haha
Just make certain you clean the surfaces with high quality alchohol before putting the tape on. Use 99.954% anhydrous isopropyl if you can, but 92% is fine. I don't like 72% because of water content (residue! ew!).
Back to Matt, I use 3m Dual Lock. (google it) It is like velcro, but the hold power is insane. You kinda have to stab a pen or something into it to pry it appart which is sweet. Read above alcohol (not rice wine) warning again.
I've been kind of absent from the forums this week because I'm working on my nitro truck for the Fall Brawl Sat & Sun this weekend. Wish me luck. There will be a HUGE ammount of people there, and hopefully I will do well. This is the first race this size I've been in. Finishing up the nitro truck as we speak...
Should be sponcers (Team Losi) there. I know a couple sponcered drivers will be there. Happy days...

ok ok, someone buy me a velcro suit and we will talk :D . but seriously that would be awesome.... anyway i will try to find that velcro, sounds like a velcro version of gurilla glue, i love that stuff. will 94% alcohol work for cleaning the surfaces?? i have like 3 things of that stuff.

Bit Hed, does this chassis means that I won't be needing my brand new aluminum motor mount?!?

Seriously now, you got me VERY tempted by it being bomb proof. Let's face it, I won't race my Infernetto, so that means I'm a basher. And for us basher types, the stronger the better. But tell me something, my H8 is totally stock right now, can I swap the stock chassis with the PitBull without needing extra parts? What parts would I need?

Bit Hed, does this chassis means that I won't be needing my brand new aluminum motor mount?!?
...Not really...In fact this chassis works great with an alloy mount as MORE heat is transferred into the chassis, which obviously has MORE area and therefor stays cooler...Its like driving one big heatsink!!
...My H8 is totally stock right now, can I swap the stock chassis with the PitBull without needing extra parts? What parts would I need?
...The PitBull will take your stock parts with stock screws no problem BUT...There are no holes for a servo and there are no holes to fit the rear chassis brace, therefore there are no holes to use the stock top-deck...WHY? Because with the motor in the rear you cant USE the top-deck, so we didnt want any holes that we werent going to use...We have left it up each individual owner to decide how they want their PitBull to look and function :D
You mean I'll have to drill the holes for the the servo and rear chassis brace? Should I use the stock chassis as a mold for that?
pimpsmurf
12-05-2005, 09:31 PM
Try to use heatsink compound (Arctic Silver 5 is fantastic) between the motor mount and the pitbull. It should definately help keep things cool. At the very least, make sure the surface is extremely clean before mounting because sand doesn't conduct heat as well as alluminum. =)
-JNY
I thought about using dielectric grease, that white stuff they put between microprocessors and the heatsink in computers. I think it would work the same.
Though I 1st I need to be sure I can "transplant" all the stock parts to the new chassis. If not, what kind of upgrades (new parts) should I need.

Actually LUW you mean thermal compound.. Dieelectric grease is for arc and moisture resistance. Just lookin' out for ya', didn't want you to go to a store asking for the wrong stuff :)

...If you know about THAT stuff BUW then you know about servo tape and shoe goo ;) The servo doesnt need to be screwed...If YOU want to screw it down then YOU can but THATS why we didnt put in screw holes...Depending on the user the setup will be different :D
...You WILL NOT NEED the rear chassis brace...You might need a top deck...We have had best results with just a simple deck that runs from the FRONT gear box / diff case / bulk head to the REAR...And all it needs is a little notch cut out to take the slipper...
...I have two BIG sinks on my AON but they are lain flat so no longer hit the top deck...There will be a 1mm plastic 'sample / template' in with each chassis so users can get strated right away, because how we all HATE to wait; nothing worse than geting alll excited only to realise that there is a screw missing...lol...Then users can change the top deck how they want, add or subtract parts, maybe even mount the servo on it upside or WHATEVER...
...The ONLY holes in the PitBull are for the motor front or rear mount and the center hub, again mounted STOCk or mounted backwards...Thats it...Your stock parts WILL fit...
...If you want i can drill the bulkhead holes to 3mm and provide a full set of YOKOMO 3x6 countersunk flathead screws to make your car even MORE secure...Add 5 USD for this wonderful service @ 58 USD shipped...Add 12 USD for insured, online trackable EMS shipping...

Will the motor mount screws be counter sunk in slots on the bottom of the chassie like stock??
Hard to tell in pics.

BitHed

...The motor mount slots are NOT countersunk...I will provide 3x6 hex buttons for fitting...At 2mm we decided NOT to sink them to keep the chassis as thick and stiff as we could...They will take a 12t perfectly but will need to be extended, just like stock, for smaller pinions...being able to crank down on the screws is nice though ;) Solid as a rock in there baby ;)

O.K. BitHed,
I have the Eclipse Buggy setup just about wrapped up. Should be ready to run Saturday for the first time. Lets see what she will do.
Now, about this PitBull chassis, I need an alloy chassis too. I am going to build a truck with it using some donar mini inferno buggy. 1/10 scale buggy tires and a suitable Pickup body (I guess a 1/10 ST body should do it).
Let's see if this baby can hold up to the bashing I will give it.

There is no kick-up on the stock chassis. It just seems like there is because of the "bubble" from the front diff.

How thick are those chassis's? And.. will there be any purple anodized versions available?

Really? Maybe I have my front torque rod done up too tight, as there is on my stock chassis. Holding a straight edge along the chassis there's a definate kick. Not a huge one, but it's there. By the end of the chassis it's approx 2.5mm raised from the horizontal.
I'll do a proper check when I have it apart next as the chassis is pretty flexible and could be the torque rod throwing it out.

I have a ?? I am switching to the 3Racing center diff housing and I am woundering about the chassie. As you know I have ordered one including the hole enlargment for 3 mm screws will this work with the new 3racing diff or do I need to tap the housing out??
Just thinking ahead now that I have ordered new stronger parts from you and everywhere all I can do is think about how it will all go together..
As soon as I put in a tekin speed control and Hacker bl. with 3 cell Li-pos, I blew all the outdrives and rear diff.

I'm thinking industrial-grade velcro....

My "short" report...
Chassis looks good...But on a "downside", its about 1-2mm narrower than the stock chassis, so hopefully that won't cause any issues when mounting an 8-cell pack and not lipo's...Had a lot of people going "oh cool" when I was showing it off a couple of weeks ago...

Bit - any word on whether CAW is going to counter-sink the motor screw slots??
the head of the motor screws will wear out pretty quickly being exposed like they are...
If you use button head alloy steel screws, I think they should last a long time unless they are being run on concrete or asphalt a lot.
On the MP777, I have used Stainless Steel, Titanium, and alloy steel screws on the bottom of the chassis. These screws wear the heads out and I replace them on a regular basis. I have settled on the alloy steel screws and just throw them out after 2-3 race days. They are flush heads so the screw head gets sharp at the edges. When I remove them to service the diffs, if they are sharp I replace them. These are the weakest heads on hex socket machine screws.
I hope to get some serious race time Saturday with the PitBull setup on 1/8scale indoor track. I will let you know how they hold up. I may even take a pic or two.

Well, after antagonizing over the perfect positioning on the drill-press, I finished countersinking the CAW top plate. I could still shave down the rear lip to have a better fit, but I managed to get the screw into the forward wing mount. I am pretty proud of myself. I mounted the 3Racing antenna holder in the center of the top plate so it comes out of the rear window, and got the body mount just about perfect. I think it came out really well, and now I can reroute the various wires around to have a very clean setup.
I'm very happy with it, although I wish I had thought to bring the pitbull with me. After seeing how easy it was to use the drill-press, I feel comfortable in drilling the servo hole for the option servo mounts. I'm not very impressed with my thin servo tape. I didn't think it would have so much flex in it.
Anyway, I think I'm going to go ahead and drill/countersink the servo hole. I am, however, certain that any future pitbull is going to come from Bithed who actually knows what he is doing. =)

I will give you one general thought about the chassis - I am not digging it...I can't see a serious racer buying it...the average joe "bashing" with the half8 would enjoy it, but the racer - can't see them dropping the $$ on it...
here are my first thoughts:
8-cell battery packs do not fit - cells rub against the center bulkhead
center bulkhead and motor mount run together
no support for the front steering rack posts
no place for torque rods to attach, front or rear - still have flex in the chassis (granted much, much less than the stock set-up, but still flexing)
Slots for the motor screws need to be recessed - the heads of the screws will wear away with continual use or a race track
the mounting holes for all 3 bulkheads are not in alignments - the top-down view doesn't show a straight line connection all 3 peices
the chassis is about 2mm (or so) narrower in the center than the stock chassis
without the rear deck, the wing doesn't mount properly to the shock tower
that's about all I can think of at think moment...it has a lot of potiential, but CAW needs to do some more work on it...

I numbered them to make it easy on me.
1) 8Cells do fit, my old saddle packs fit just great. The URC packs work great with the easily affordable 3Racing center diff housing.
2) Say what? mine don't run together.
3) not needed IMHO.
4) no meaningfull flex, even before a single-piece top plate (stiffy)
5) screws = cheap. I agree with you here though.
6) They are not in line on the stock chassis... look at it. They are off-center to allow the dogbones to rest better. (less rattle)
7) narrower? Doesn't matter.
8) Actually, with the rear torque mount, it works perfectly. You would just need to use a non-flat head screw.
The torque rods are useless on this thing. The play in the cups would be more flex than this will ever see.
Although modification is required for buggy-use, I really like the CAW top plate! It is fantastic and makes the chassis 100% rigid. Trust the Jolly Roger!(tm)

well from my prospective, everything I mentioned is an issue...If CAW is marketing the chassis towards the "basher" or casual racer, then ok - but if they are trying to go after the hardcore racer (or even semi-serious race, like me) these are issues...
You are right, there is not much in lines of meaningfull flex, but the flex is still there - and that can cause the steering post supports to break...then you are out of commission..I've broken 2 on the stock chassis WITH torque rods...
yes, the screws are a cheap fit, but it you grind them away enough - then you need to hope and pray they can still be removed or else the purdy motor mount and chassis are headed to the trashcan...
on my chassis - with a kyosho motor mount and atomic center bulkhead - the motor mount and the bulkhead rub together...the mount rubs against the piece that holds the spur gear in place...
all i know is all 4 of my packs do not fit in the chassis without touching the center bulkhead - which I'm not too happy about...(to my too narrow comment) if the chassis was 2mm wider, then all packs would fit without problems...shouldn't only be able to run 1 company's batteries - bad, bad marketing idea...
the steering post supports were in the original pics - and would be a very welcomed addition, especially since torque rods are being "frowned" upon...any extra support that can be offered to those posts (especially the thin servo saver side) would be all the better...
as far as the shafts not running a straight line down the chassis, I'll have to look at my plastic one again...I was under the impression that the center dogbones was perpendicular to the edge of the chassis - I know my 8th scale is that way as well as most of the other ones I've seen...

> well from my prospective, everything I mentioned is an issue...If CAW is marketing the chassis towards the "basher" or casual racer, then ok - but if they are trying to go after the hardcore racer (or even semi-serious race, like me) these are issues...
I can respect that. Although I think they are targeting bashers/flashers (show cars)
> You are right, there is not much in lines of meaningfull flex, but the flex is still there - and that can cause the steering post supports to break...then you are out of commission..I've broken 2 on the stock chassis WITH torque rods...
still, the stock chassis flexes mostly right at the posts. It also flexes (with torque rods) 10x more than the pitbull under a reasonable load.
>yes, the screws are a cheap fit, but it you grind them away enough - then you need to hope and pray they can still be removed or else the purdy motor mount and chassis are headed to the trashcan...
Or stock them up in your tool box and replace them when they show signs of nasty. I don't do jumps on asphault, so the only trouble I have is cleaning them out before I try to unscrew them. Also, maybe try red locktite instead of blue (like I use to use. :( )
>on my chassis - with a kyosho motor mount and atomic center bulkhead - the motor mount and the bulkhead rub together...the mount rubs against the piece that holds the spur gear in place...
I guess try a kyosho or 3Racing motor mount. I'll use this opportunity to bash atomik. *shakes finger* BAD ALLOY! BAD!
>all i know is all 4 of my packs do not fit in the chassis without touching the center bulkhead - which I'm not too happy about...(to my too narrow comment) if the chassis was 2mm wider, then all packs would fit without problems...shouldn't only be able to run 1 company's batteries - bad, bad marketing idea...
What are your packs? Are they 8 cells? What are thier configuration. A link to a picture is worth 1000 words.
>the steering post supports were in the original pics - and would be a very welcomed addition, especially since torque rods are being "frowned" upon...any extra support that can be offered to those posts (especially the thin servo saver side) would be all the better...
Try the CAW top plate. It is thick as hell (maybe too thick) and has insane (insane, insane, insane) thickness. ZERO flex. Also, a stiffy is probably a better solution since Bithed owns. They are extremely thin, but the stiffness is insane.
> as far as the shafts not running a straight line down the chassis, I'll have to look at my plastic one again...I was under the impression that the center dogbones was perpendicular to the edge of the chassis - I know my 8th scale is that way as well as most of the other ones I've seen...[/QUOTE]
*shrug* I've seen many a post trying to figure out why kyosho made the old plastic chassis' offset. I don't know what the true reason why, but it seems like there would be less rattle if the dogbone is tilted a little.

pimp - actually I am running a KYOSHO motor mount...and I've had the 3 racing mount in there - and on my chassis the rub against one another...so you're spanking atomic for no reason ;)
my 8-cell packs are configured like follows:
= =
I= =I
= =
you get the point - but its in the same configuration as everyone sells...and they don't fit...like I said, making the chassis to specifically fit only one company's battery packs is bad...even tamiya stick-pack only chassis, can use anyone's packs...
and, unless I'm mistake, the red locktight is the permanent stuff?? and the blue is the "temporary" (for lack of a better work)
I was asked to give my honest opinion of the chassis - so I did...I still say the motor screw holes should have been recessed even a .5mm just enough to pull the screw head of of the way...I don't run my half8 on asphalt either - just on a hard packed almost blue-groove track, and it wears away at screw heads...and having to replace them every 2 or 3 runs will get expensive over the long run - not too mention annoyingly repetitive

...The battery pack issue exists and I dont know why...Shoot me...Put me out of my misery :p

I'm not trying to put down the chassis...its georgeous..nice finish, nice color, decent weight...but as a racer, I would find it hard to see the semi-serious to hardcore guys buying one without some modifications....its not in "left field", just not heading towards "deep center field, kiss it goodbye" :D

the solution to the motor screws is counter sink the chassis but dont elongate the hole and make a slot in the motor mount for adjustment with a nut to tighten it up.
that is how it should of been done.
I actually think the chassis is too stiff. the stiffer the chassis the more sensitive the car is to adjustments. AND the worse it drives if you miss the set up even by a little bit.
One reason many people don't like the XRAY XB8. so many adjustments it is mind bologing unless your a pro.

...No i know what you mean K-B...Its all good..I appreciate the feedback...You have me thinking about how to do the motor mount screws now...Time to make friends with Mr. Dremel again :D
...All said and done though i STILL stand-by the original concept of providing a platform that each inividual user could modify / add-on to his own specs...
...thanks again for your comments K-B...You can chuck out your PitBull now

...That is how Hoss did the Eclipse and it is QUITE brilliant...
That is how it should of been done.
...I disagree...We set out to make a basic chassis with a matching price...CAW has a motor mount just as you describe but it is being kept for 'something else'...The PitBull does what we wanted it to do...

Well yes, hot damn. I still spank atomic for thier... thier... dummies! ;)
Green is the permanent stuff. Some green is penetrating (for already assembled things that god doesn't want to remove without a torch)
Red is more easily removed. This isn't a standard. Some brands have different strengths. I just know the blue loctite I have is too strong. The red doesn't raddle loose, but is easier to loosen with a screwdriver (especially phillips heads.)
I'm with you on the countersinking motor mounts, but it really hasn't been an issue for me. The thing that pissed me off most is investing in the 3Racing servo top plate only to find the CAW pitbull is missing the damned screw for the non-kyosho servos. They won't respond to my emails on that which further jaded me.
As far as replacing the screws every few runs, it is expensive, but since I'm already replacing the center diff every few runs (I eat them like candy. expensive candy) the extra 40 cents for screws doesn't bother me so much.
Hey kyosho, Hitler wants his diff back.

wrong look at the loctite web site. RED is permenant blue is removable with strong hands OR a little heat.
never use red on an RC
there is also another one) that is designed for 1/4 and smaller fasteners that is the correct for our application.

the loctite for small screws is purple.... You want both surfaces to be clean before applying. Loctite also makes a primer to prep surfaces before use.

Funny thing... it seems that you cant find that purple one anywhere, at least in Europe, nad th blue Loctite already made use Mr. Dremel products too many times for my taste, so i started to use the removable blue Team Associated one. It's not that hard on the wrists and you can remove the screws without ruining them and the better thing is that still holds the screws in place so i guess that like Pimp says, each brand has it owns rate of resistance for each color

OK back to the topic. pitbull! I love it! 15 seconds to take out the center diff. try that on a stock chassis.
I cleaned out the 30,000 dif greese from the FT rear and my on power push is history.this thing is indestructable. Still need more steering. that is my next project. maybe just need TIRES!
Add me to the PitBull club!
But citing The Police's "So Lonely":
All dressed up and no where to go
I can't play around with it, because of my servo problems :(. This week I'll assemble (or try to, most probably) the new chassis and my oil shox (thanks again, Bitty! :)). At least I still can have fun assembling the thing. ;)

Really just wanted to ask you:
}Team Homies (#MRS-025-S) High Speed Pinion Set For Mirco RS-4
(11,12,13,14T)
-Can I use these pinions? Are the gears on the KMI 48 pitch or 42 ??
-Where can I get a set of ST diffs??
Thanks, Clive

I don't think you can use those pinions. Look for the HPI, or AE one's.You should be able to get the diff's at your LHS. Our's has them.
NakedApe
03-17-2006, 12:09 PM
Well well. I've already ordered them. See I thought that since they were for the RS4 that they would work...
Can't seem to find the HPI RS4 ones and the AE ones I did find only go to 13T so no good.
Should I even try or will I strip a diff or something...
I have a 12T Atomic one but it has to sit v close to the motor to get a good mesh. May have to grind the pinion or modify the mount...Besides, part of the pinion is 2mm and part is larger so the pinion sits slightly off centre. I thought of shimming the motor spindle with an uber thin piece of ally but micro-surgery like that is not the way I wanna go in the long-haul.
Would you believe that the official Kyosho retailer in my part of the world has not even brought the ST in yet???!!
ToyKar is the official rep in Singapore and Malaysia and you would imagine that since the ships stop here that they could just drop off one or two but no...
Their existence is still but a rumour here. (Both in Singapore and M'sia)
Oh well. If anybody has any ideas as to whether they do work could you please let me know? :)
Thanks,
CR
