I have been working on this for a week or so. I have tried different configurations and this one is the one I decided would be the best while having the most one off fabrictions. the servo and motor are on the right side while the Li-Po battery (I have found a 1900 mah and a 2100mah 3S Thunderpowers that will fit easily.) This leaves building the deck to mount the antenna, esc, and receiver. I have standoffs in plastic and aluminum. I will use the plastic to workout locations and drilling holes.
The deck is to be determined.
This configuration looks to have the best front to rear and side to side balance. It also allows the largest battery space.
To mount the motor I am modifying MP777 motor mount plates to be shorter but the as there is not enough room in front of the motor for them from the factory. There is plenty of room for the rest of the plate and once you set the pinion depth, you can remove the motor and replace without disturbing the setting. There is more adjustment too because the holes are longer than in the chassis and the plates raise the motor/mount to clear the diff mount and allow to move it closer.
I was waiting to get it closer to finished and provide weights at all four wheels but I ran across a link yesterday to another sight that a French gentleman had a photo up with this layout. He had cut a chasis from composite and I may end up doing the same. Probably from 7075 aluminum. That will be difficult as I don't have access to a machine shop.
Any way, I have been outed.

Holy christ! You even moved the motor to the other side?

Is that a Mamba motor?

I turned the center diff 180 degrees and the motor mount just fits in where the battery used to go. The current batteries for this mockup are 2 3S 730mah thunderpowers end to end. In the same space I can place one 2100mah 3S battery.
I originally wanted to move the motor to the back on the left side just like the 1/8 buggys but this made more sense especially when the diff flip was so easy. Every thing just falls into place.

The motor is a Hacker E30 4200Kv. I have my eye on a 4900 Kv at the lhs. The esc is a Quark 22A. I picked these up as a package from Sky & Technology at RCX. It was under $100 for both. The lhs wants $90 for just the motor.
Still waiting for ball diffs and the 3Racing steering.

By the way, I have a Mamba 2080 for sale. ESC and 8000Kv motor with usb hookup too! Just make an offer. Never been used.

Now that the stock parts are plentiful it is not as risky. I can easily replace everything. I haven't really cut up any thing yet, most of the parts are added to replace the bracing and elec. deck.

give me a couple of weeks and I will have a kit to do it. I would like aluminum because I want to race off road with it but I could see doing composite. It would be easier because I know someone that can take an example and, build the mold and layup bunches of them cheap. Hard as heck stuff.
